Why The Younger Millenials are Turning to Botox

botox younger women
When Botox Cosmetic first gained FDA approval in the early 1990's it was marketed to an older demographic of mainly women in their fifties and sixties.  While that demographic is still heavily getting their Botox the atmosphere is changing, as more men and more younger women are turning to Botox at a much younger age.  In our Orlando Medical Spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center the age demographic of our clients has progressively gotten younger and of course more men are coming in that never before.
So why are the Younger Millenials turning to Botox more than ever before now?
There are many different benefits to Botox than just erasing wrinkles.  In the industry, we now know the preventative benefit of Botox for the younger demographic which is now a large sector of frequent Botox users.
Women and men as young as 25-30 years old are now having Botox Cosmetic Injections regularly (every 3-4 motnhs). However, they are not just doing it to remove wrinkles, they are also using Botox to prevent more wrinkles.  Botox is the only cosmetic treatment that can relax your muscles that create elaborate expressions such as squinting.  By doing this one can no longer flex the facial muscles & make wrinkles appear or make them worse.
Those who start Botox at a younger age are actually pretty smart & saving themselves money in the long run, as they won't need as much Botox when their older. Often in the medical spa industry I find that older clients who have never tried Botox or aesthetic treatments need a large amount of work and sometimes don't understand what it takes to ease the wrinkles or the expense.  Those who have always taken care of themselves in a preventive measure at a younger age tend to need less Botox and treatments in general.

The differences between Botox and Juvederm

After performing cosmetic consultations for 9 years at Orlando medical spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center I have realized that people tend to think Botox and Juvederm products are the same and do the same thing.  However, Botox and Juvederm are two totally different types of injectables and do different things for the face.  It is important to have an understanding of the different injectables so that you can select what is best for you and research the best medical spas and injectors in your area for Botox and Juvederm.

Here are the main differences between Botox and Juvederm.
Botox Cosmetic is a Botulin Toxin injectable. Botox is best used for treating wrinkles that are "expression related" or related to muscle use in the face.  Botox is best for treating the forehead, glabellar (inbetween the eyebrows), and around the eyes "crows feet" area.  Botox is not a volumizer so it will not add volume, replace volume or fill in every line, that would be a dermal filler.  Botox Cosmetic does not provide instant gratification either.  It can take up to 2 weeks for Botox to set and kick in completely.  Botox is a simple treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows through a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time. Botox lasts 3-5 months on average and will last longer each time it is injected.  Botox is not considered a dermal filler.
Juvederm products including Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Voluma XC are injectables that are considered  dermal fillers.  Dermal fillers add volume and replace volume in the mid-face in areas such as the cheeks, smile lines (naso-labial folds), and lips.  As women and men age we naturally break down fat, hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastyn in the mid-face. This lack of volume can not be replaced with Botox Cosmetic, only a dermal filler such as Juvederm can replace this volume.  By replacing volume in the face it creates a "liquid facelift"  Juvederm is a smooth consistency  gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.

How to Get the Best & Safest Botox Cosmetic Treatments

The Medical Spa industry is still fairly new (about 20-25 years old) and continuously grows with new laws and FDA supervision of treatments. However laws still vary and their are still many medical spas, and physicians that abuse the system in order to save money. I bring this up because while the prices of cosmetic treatments have gone down due to the economy there are still those that want to save even more by looking for the "cheapest" and easiest deal. One of the biggest treatments that has become of topic lately is Botox Cosmetic. Botox Cosmetic is an amazing treatment that has become so popular because it's easy, affordable, and it works! However, Federal regulators have warned more than 350 medical practices that Botox they may have received from a Canadian supplier is unapproved and could be counterfeit or unsafe. So I wanted to give a few tips to finding a good, legitimate, and safe medical spa or physician's office to get Botox Cosmetic treatments. Here are the top 3 Red Flags for unsafe Botox Injections 1.) If the price is too good to be true-it probably is! Why: Botox generally runs $9-$13 per unit in the Central Florida area, so if you see it for $5-$8 per unit this could be a generic form of Botox-not what you want! 2.) The location is not supervised by a physician or they only do it once a month (such as your local salon or nail spa). Why: You want to go somewhere that specializes in Botox injections such as a medical spa or Doctor's office that does it on a daily basis and is Board Certified and supervised by a Doctor. 3.) If you do not see the bottle of Botox Cosmetic (by Allergan) that they are using to inject you. Why: The only FDA approved brand of Botox is Botox Cosmetic by Allergan & you can ask to see the bottle-there should be a hologram on it as well that says Allergan. General tips: Do your research-ask who performs the treatment and if they are certified & how much experience they have. If you walk in and feel uncomfortable or the nothing is explained to you prior to the treatment then leave. Read online reviews or ask your friends for referrals!
