Cosmetic Fillers are Great Alternative to Surgical Facelift
Injectable procedures offer a wonderful alternative to invasive surgical procedures such as a facelift. Many injectable cosmetic fillers offer results that can last for over one year, and fillers are quick, painless, and requires little or no recovery time.
We perform anti-aging consultations on a daily basis and the most common question is what is the difference between all of the types of injectables on the market and which one is best for me. This should give everyone some insight.
The first injectable procedure many people think of is BOTOX Cosmetic. BOTOX Cosmetic is a purified protein comprised of botulinum toxin type A. The main ingredient in BOTOX Cosmetic relaxes contractions in certain facial muscles. These contractions normally lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
BOTOX Cosmetic has a long history of proven results, and provides a smoother appearance for three to four months. However, dermal fillers and BOTOX accomplish different results: BOTOX relaxes wrinkles and is best for forehead and around the eyes while while dermal fillers restore lost facial volume and are best for lips, and lines around the mouth or naso-labial folds.
There are many dermal fillers on the market. Some of the most popular ones are as follows:
- Juvederm, Restylane, & Perlane - They all contain hyaluronic acid (Perlane & Juvederm Ultra Plus have larger molecules for a deeper fill) and they work to plump up the areas in your skin which have lost volume to promote a softer, more youthful appearance. Depending on the treatment area as well as your unique skin, a single treatment of either of these fillers can provide results for 9-14 months.
- Radiesse - a smooth gel injectable filled with microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite great for very deep naso-labial folds. A single 1.5cc syringe of this filler can last 12-16 months.
Both BOTOX Cosmetic and facial fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, and creases from almost any area of your face. In addition, Juvederm and Restylane can both be used for lip augmentation.
No single solution is best for every patient. Talk to your local medical spa, nurse or plastic surgeon about the best option for you, also research who in your state is licensed to perform these treatments and that they are supervised by a Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist.

Men are Anti-Aging for Love
When Cupid's bow strikes, we do things least expected of us. And in the case of men, it is more so, as days before Valentine’s Day, dermatology experts are registering a rise in the footfall of male clients seeking skin treatments.Experts tell us that there is almost a 40% rise in the number of men asking for treatments. While laser hair removal is a huge hit among men, there are many who ask for a treatment called Dermal Fillers.
“Dermal cosmetic fillers such as Perlane, Juvederm, Radiesse or Restylane are used to replace volume loss in the lips, cheeks & naso-labial folds around the nose and mouth that are usually caused by natural fat pad loss in the cheeks. Fillers act as an instant liquid face-lift to replace loss volume” informs James Farrell M.D.-plastic surgeon & medical director of Winter Park Laser. Botox and Dysport have also become increasingly popular amongst men as they are finally realizing they have to get in the "cosmetic game" to keep up with their younger looking counter parts.
“Men are starting to get concerned with their physical appearance, and it is only becoming more popular, many laser treatments like ablative or non-ablative fractional laser resurfacing or IPL (intense pulsed light) photo-facials to erase sun damage and wrinkles are very popular” says Dr James Farrell, plastic surgeon, Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center. They can now have treatments performed that erase wrinkles within 20-60 minutes and have very little down-time so that no one knows what they have had done.
At Winter Park Laser at our medical spa in Orlando we treat men of all ages and walks of life-from typical masculine construction workers to male models-dermal fillers, laser treatments and Botox offer all men a simple alternative to looking older than their partners-it also helps in a competitive job market where looking younger could help seal the deal on a job contract. For more information on treatments go to www.winterparklaser.com.

Manly Botox & other Cosmetic Treatments for Men
Manly Botox & other Cosmetic Treatments for Men
When Botox became popular 2 decades ago along with lasers it was mainly used by women, however men are now getting bitten by the Botox bug. Statistics show that about 250000 Botox procedures were performed on men alone in the United States last year, making it the leading cosmetic treatment for men; so much so that it has gained the nicknames "Brotox" and “Boytox.”
Men have the same aging concerns as women-wrinkles, sun damage, sagging skin so why shouldn't they be able to fix them. Well now that social norms have given the wink and nod for the green light on laser skin resurfacing, fillers and Botox men are stepping our of their man caves and into medical spas. Competition in the job markets also plays a part in the influx as men want to stay looking young and healthy for that career competitive edge.
Botox is a natural and purified protein that temporarily reduces contractions of the facial muscles that cause lines, by blocking nerve transmissions, leaving the skin unwrinkled. This creates a smooth and a more youthful appearance.
Botox Cosmetic is a simple and nonsurgical procedure that is injected into the facial muscles using tiny insulin needles. It is used for forehead lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines,&brow lift (when one eyebrow is lower than the other).
Contrary to what most people think, Botox does not freeze facial expressions, but it softens them. It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes for the treatment but results take up to 2 weeks to completely set. Side effects are not long-term, with some minor bruising that disappears in a week’s time. Botox Cosmetic should be affordable but don't go with the "cheapest" as you always want pure Botox from Allergan (look for the hologram on the bottle). You can also take advantage of Allergan's free point program (Brilliant Distinctions) that will save you $25-$50 each treatment.
Doctors say that men need higher doses than women, probably because they have greater muscle mass. It has also been observed that larger and stronger men need more units per treatment area than small-boned men.
The best part about Botox is that this is equality in a new sense where men are allowed to take care of themselves in the same ways that men have for years. For more information on Botox or other treatments go to www.winterparklaser.com

Good Botox Treatments Vs. Bad Botox Treatments
I love this story-as we only use Botox Cosmetic from Allergan and you can check our hologram on the bottle any time to make sure that is legitimately Botox Cosmetic. Unfortunately there have been some alarming instances of companies purchasing "off-label" botox that has caused terrible results, here is an article on this issue:

Uptown Dallas—
New Year celebrations are upon us. 2012 marks a fresh start, a time for resolutions, and for many...a chance to get that new, more youthful appearance.
“We’re seeing an explosive growth of procedures to make people look more beautiful, and Botox is definitely one of them,” says cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Adelglass, M.D., F.A.C.S.
He's always ready to make a pretty face more beautiful.
“You can see the hologram on this bottle – this is an original bottle of Botox,” says Dr. Adelglass.
He says a hologram on the bottle is one sure-fire way to know that Botox is the real deal. But Dr. Adelgass does warn consumers to proceed with caution when it comes to getting such treatments.
“There are a lot of importers and people are trying to buy it inexpensively through foreign channels and then use it on their patients,” he explains.
Just this week he received a letter in the mail with different out-of-the-country Botox options that he could potentially buy.
“Well, I think this is illegal,” says Dr. Adelglass.
Illegal or not, he says this is an increasing trend. Which is perhaps why some North Texans say "Botox" is not on their "To Do" list.
“Just because I’ve heard like the horror stories and then they don’t have like their natural expressions,” says Erika Gomez.
Others say they are not opposed to it.
“I would never use it personally, but I don’t fault people for trying to improve their appearance by any means,” says Steven Schwartz.
Dr. Adelglass says if you are looking for that New Year, New You "pick me up", it's all about doing your research first.
“And believe it or not, there is an importance to having a doctor [do this procedure] because this is a medical procedure. Botox, Deport - it can only be sold to physicians,” he says.
Dr. Adelglass also suggests using caution when it comes to purchasing cosmetic procedures via discount websites. He says this could be a red flag to potential "Botox Gone Bad" horror stories.

Beware of "Bargain Botox Deals" online or from friends
The cosmetic industry has changed and grown greatly over the past decade and with Botox Cosmetic becoming the #1 non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the US for the past 5 years it is no surprise that many people are now looking to try the treatment. Unfortunately due to the economy many are turning to "bargain basement deals" from on-line sites or "at home" parties from friends. While Botox Cosmetic is a cosmetic procedure it is still a medical procedures and should be held to the same standards as any other medical procedure would. First of all, never purchase Botox on-line and always make sure that the Botox Cosmetic you are getting comes from Allergan (the only maker of Botox cosmetic) there is a hologram on the bottle to look for and you can ask to watch the medical practitioner mix it in front of you.
Second of all you wouldn't purchase brain surgery at 50% off so why would you do it for a treatment that is injecting something in to your body? Botox Cosmetic is an amazing treatment but should only be performed by a certified and licensed medical professional in a licensed medical spa, or medical office who are not only licensed but insured, when you have it done at someones home there is no medical malpractice insurance covering that. Do your research and look for reviews when selecting a location for Botox Cosmetic not just for the "cheapest deal."
Here is a similar article on the same problem in the UK: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2054318/Beware-Bargain-Botox-Online-deals-cosmetic-injections-misleading-unsafe.html Beware the 'Bargain Botox': Online deals for cosmetic injections 'misleading and unsafe'

Why More Men are Getting Botox
Over the past 8 years in our Medical Spa (Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center) in Orlando we have seen the number of men that walk through our door for cosmetic treatments increase every year. It started with laser hair removal-a lot of hairy backs or ingrown hairs for beards but has steadily increased in facial treatments, acne laser treatments, stretchmarks and the most recent cosmetic increase for men has been Cosmetic Fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, Perlane and of course the injectable Botox Cosmetic. Often times it is a wife, or girl friend that drags the man in but after he tries the treatment once he continues to come back all on his own and to refer other men! As societal norms rule "looks do matter" and many men especially single men are trying to make it count, below was a news story from NBC in south Florida about the increase in men and Botox Cosmetic. It is no surprise as Botox Cosmetic is the #1 non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the world than men are finally jumping on the band-wagon, after all they have wrinkles and insecurities just like women. It just took a few brave men to pave the way! For more information on Botox at our medical spa go to www.winterparklaser.com You can watch this video on the man getting Botox at http://www.ksn.com/content/news/health/story/More-men-getting-Botox-injections/qls6UF_bEkaVg-wzmJC7iQ.cspx
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (NBC News) – Barry Goren recently jumped back in the dating game, but he knows he has to step it up if he's going to meet the right girl.
So he decided to go to Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera to get Botox.Does he think it makes him less manly? No!Barry is not alone.
National statistics show some 300,000 men received tiny injections of Botox or some cosmetic treatments last year. And because of that, lots of "dudes" are not only opting for what's affectionately called "boy-tox" these days, but even more males are asking for something called: Sculptra.
There are differences though as to how men and women approach getting such services.
Dr. Aguilera says guys tend to be more clandestine, more covert.
The American male grooming market is worth $3.5 billion a year and a larger portion is now going to cosmetic procedures. A number that doctors say is sure to continue to surge.

What you should know about cosmetic fillers
With the growing demand for plastic surgery, it's no surprise technology has created less invasive medical products and procedures to help erase years off your appearance. You've likely seen the ads and commercials for products such as Botox and Juvederm, but do you really know what they do? Before going in for treatment here are some tips from Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Medical Spa in Orlando.
First, it's important to know the different between Botox Cosmetic/Dysport and facial fillers. Since they are both administered as injections, the products can often get incorrectly lumped into the same category, when they actually focus on different facial areas. "Botox Cosmetic or Dysport are used to temporarily relax hyperactive facial muscles, and are usually used in the forehead, glabellar (inbetween brows) or the crow's feet areas.
Botox -- the number one treatment in America is not a one-time fix as it has to be repeated every 4-6 months but it is great as a preventative cosmetic measure as it prevents wrinkles from worsening.
In contrast, as their name indicates, Cosmetic facial fillers are used to fill any areas of facial volume loss or 'deflation' and are typically used to treat thin cheeks, upper lip cheek folds, marionette lines, the depression along the jaw line in front of the jowls and thin lips. The loss of facial volume (especially the fat pads in the cheeks) is part of the aging process but can also occur at a younger age because of weight loss or heredity. Injections of facial fillers, which were once only associated with the "bee stung lips" of celebrities, can help to restore fullness to the face.
All injectables and cosmetic fillers are performed by injection. Botox Cosmetic is injected via insulin needles which are tiny and barely felt by the patient. All cosmetic fillers can have lidocaine added into them making it a painless procedure without any downtime except slight swelling and a possibility of small bruises. All injectables should be administered by a Nurse Practitioner, A Physician's Assistant, or a Physician who is trained and experienced. These treatments are an art-form and some injectors are better than other.
Always ask to see pictures of clients, read reviews, check licenses and ask for a consultation to decide on the best treatments for you.

Why Combining Aesthetic Treatments is Powerful
Over the past 8 years in our medical spa, we have found that combining at least two cosmetic treatments (whether non-invasive treatments with products or other treatments or non-invasive with surgical) gives the optimal results clients are seeking. A recent study in the July 2011 Aesthetic Surgery Journal concluded that Botox Cosmetic patients treated with a combination of hydroquinone and tretinoin topical experienced a greater reduction in fine lines and wrinkles than those treated with Botox Cosmetic injections alone. We also find that clients receiving cosmetic injectables also benefit highly from laser resurfacing because it offers a longer lasting results to smoothing wrinkles.
Another issue that benefits from multiple treatment modalities is hyper-pigmentation (excess pigment caused by sun damage or Melasma). Utilizing chemical peels to break down pigment and dead skin cells with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photo-facial treatments offers a better solution while minimizing any negative side effects, and using hydroquinone bleaching agents with IPL treatments offers a longer lasting result for clients.
Acne also benefits from a combination of laser treatments, chemical peels, and at home products that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients with bacteria fighting ingredients.
Your medical spa and skin-care experts will help to determine the best combination treatment plans for your skin care concerns.

What Really Happens at a Medical Spa
This is a great article!
What Really Happens At A Medical Spa?
Didi Smith on November 18, 2010 — Leave a Comment
Nowadays, cosmetic medical treatments are in demand. This is attributable what we always see on tv and magazines. Perfect pictures became a regular element of our way of life that it is subconsciously imprinted on our minds that we should be perfect in every way. Imperfections are frowned upon and they are thought of as something you need to enhance. This is really the reason why cosmetic medical methods are very popular not just to celebrities but to common people as well.
Most of us have this belief that being perfect has its advantages and is definitely a plus. Unlike before, people getting cosmetic treatments are not so open in regards to this, but these days most people are preaching about it. So why do people make an effort in order to be perfect in how they appear? Well, it is our human nature to want something beautiful. We always choose things which are better than others. Naturally, this is often applied to how we look. We believe that if we look better than others and when we have no imperfections then things will be easier for us. This is most evident in social situations.
People are initially drawn to those who look good. One other reason is that it’s thought to be an easy option. Rather than spending lots of time to attempt to look great, these treatments last for a short time or an hour or so. This is also in correlation with our busy lifestyle. We don’t wish to spend lots of time on something and when there’s a faster method of doing it. This is why cosmetic medical treatments are extremely popular.
There are lots of of procedures to choose from nowadays. You will find surgical and non-surgical treatments. The ones that require surgery includes the traditional plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Probably the most prevalent aesthetic surgeries are mammoplasty consisting of breast enhancement, breast reduction and breast lifts; abdominoplasty which is popularly known as tummy tuck; blepharoplasty which reshape the eyelids and applying a permanent liner; buttock augmentation or what we commonly refer to as butt implants; liposuction which removes fat from the body, among others.
Non-surgical procedures include laser treatments, chemical peel, botox, microdermabrasion, facelifts, and a lot more. These are just some treatments we can choose from to get the perfection we want. But nevertheless, we should always remember that beauty is in the eye of beholder. We might not think we are beautiful however, many people may think otherwise.
If you are thinking about understanding what dermatologists and various medical doctors operating nonsurgical cosmetic medical spas think of the next IPL and aesthetic fractional skin systems by Syneron, Sciton, Alma, Cutera, Solta, Palomar, Candela, Cynosure, Lumenis , or applications such as Thermage skin tightening, Smart lipo, Restylane, tumescent liposuction and photofacials, remember to stop by the aesthetic fractional laser skin forums on Medical Spa MD, a community of health professionals practicing aesthetic medicine.
Medical Spa MD is a community of Plastic Surgeons, Cosmetic Dermatologists, and Aesthetic Physicians with more than 4,500 physician members. Medical Spa MD offers Thermage and provides information on non-surgical cosmetic medical technologies and treatments.

Botox Treats More than wrinkles
Botox Treats More Than Wrinkles
Everyone knows about Botox, the wrinkle-reducer that’s injected into the face to retain a youthful look. It turns out that the procedure now has a number of new uses. Botox can also reduce excessive sweating and relax facial muscles.
We’ve all seen models with flawless, porcelain skin. Forgetting that much of this perfection is due to hours of makeup and airbrushing, their skin probably does start out smoother than normal people.
The rest of us, with real-world skin, are left envious.
“I have open pores and very greasy skin around this area, next to the nose,” Botox patient Guadalupe Pensado said.
Those skin problems have bothered Pensado for a long time, but there wasn’t all that much she could do about it.
But now, she’s seeing facial plastic surgeon Dr. Kamran Jafri, who’s developed a new way to use Botox.
“Right along the cheek area here on the right side, we have some moderate pores there, and even as I’m working with the Q-tip I see a fair amount of oil production as well,” Dr. Jafri said.
A close skin exam confirms the problem, and the solution is intra-dermal Botox injections, which are different from the anti-wrinkle variety.
“It doesn’t go below the skin, it doesn’t go in the muscles below it,” Dr. Jafri said. “The injection is only in the skin, to affect the things that we’re seeing on the skin.
Dr. Jafri injects a more dilute Botox solution every quarter inch or so in the problem areas, and the treatment works by doing the same thing that deeper wrinkle injections do, only in the skin.
“Our skin contains these tiny little muscles, and these muscles are what give us goose bumps – they keep our pores open,” Dr. Jafri said. “By weakening those muscles, much like weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles, you actually cause the skin to tighten.
“You decrease oil production, and you help the pores shrink up a little bit,” Jafri said.
The treatment shrinks pores, and patients report reduced oiliness. In some cases, even the discoloration of skin that comes with acne is reduced as well.
Minutes after her treatment, Pensado can see a difference.
“I love it, look at my nose,” she said. “Of course I can tell.”
