Laser Stretchmark Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Until 4 years ago most physicians would tell women and men that there was no treatment or cure for stretchmarks.  However, that changed when Palomar Medical became the first company to receive FDA approval for laser stretchmark removal with their Fractional 1540 Laser for skin resurfacing.  Since then we have seen thousands of women and men receive up to an 85% reduction in their stretchmarks in 4-5 treatments at our Orlando Medical Spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center.   While laser stretchmark removal is extremely effective it is still a relatively new procedure in the asethetic field and therefor still garners a lot of skepticism and questions.  So here are frequently asked questions and answers.
Laser Stretchmark Removal Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
#1 Does laser stretchmark removal really work?
Yes! It really does work-the fractional laser penetrates to the deepest skin layer the dermis and breaks up weak stretchmark tissue, pushes it out, and the heat stimulates new collagen and elastyn, thus reducing the appearance of the stretchmarks.
#2 How does laser stretchmark removal work?
The Lux1540XD™ Fractional laser hand-piece can improve the unsightly color and skin texture associated with stretch marks, leaving women with smoother, better-looking skin with no downtime. The Lux1540XD hand-piece delivers an array of high-precision micro-beams to create deep, narrow columns of coagulation in the epidermis and dermis. This triggers a restorative natural healing process that creates healthy new tissue, including the deposition of new collagen on any area of the body eliminating embarrassing white or red striae (stretch-marks). Treatments are relatively comfortable and topical numbing is a complimentary option for an incredibly comfortable procedure.
#3 Is laser stretchmark removal permanent?
Yes, the results are permanent and usually require 4-6 treatments.
#4 Who is the ideal candidate for laser stretchmark removal?
While, laser stretchmark removal will give a reduction in stretchmarks for everyone, there are certain circumstances that garner better results.  Lighter skin types who have newer stretchmarks tend to do the best.

This year it is time to think outside of the box and give people what they really want and need.  While aesthetic treatments such as Botox, fillers, laser hair removal and more used to be a very private entity but now it is much more well known now and people are more comfortable to talk about these treatments and ask for them.  So this year instead of traditional gifts give the gift of beauty with Aesthetic Treatments.
Here are the top aesthetic treatments that our clients as for as a gift.
#1 Laser Hair Removal: Laser hair removal is the top gift asked for in our medical spa.  It is a great gift for women, men and teens.  The gift of not shaving is an amazing gift and will give people back extra time.  It is an easy painless procedure and can be extremely affordable to purchase especially for small areas.  For men laser hair removal for the neck, beard or back can give them the time and confidence they deserve especially for those with ingrown hairs.  Laser hair removal is a permanent solution for those with ingrown hairs.  Teen girls especially love the underarms as an area for laser hair removal.

Tips for getting the Best Botox Injections

While Botox® has become a household name and is the #1 cosmetic treatment performed in the world (both surgical and non-surgical) there are still many questions and mystery surrounding it. When deciding to get Botox injections it is important to know what to look for in a treatment provider as well as how to know you are really getting Botox® Cosmetic from Allergan and not an imitation Botulin Toxin. After performing Botox® consultations for 5 years at our Orlando Medical Spa Winter Park Laser I have come up with the best tips. Here are Tips for Getting the Best Botox® Injections #1 Ask for a referral from friends. Botox® is no longer a "taboo subject" amongst friends, it's almost as common as brushing your teeth these days and even if you think you don't no anyone who uses it, I guarantee if you bring it up at least more than a few of your friends will admit to using it and can give you a great referral. By using a referral from a friend you can see the types of results you want-the friend who looks so great but natural that you didn't even realize she used Botox®! You will therefore feel comfortable with the Treatment provider before you even begin treatment and you will have an idea of what to expect. #2 Verify that you actually getting Botox® Cosmetic from Allergan: Botox® is a brand of Botulin Toxin, and is the #1 type used however there are unfortunately imported Botulin Toxins from Canada or other brands such as Dysport or Xeomin. It is important when you schedule your appointment that you ask directly if they are using Botox® Cosmetic. You then want to ask to see the bottle and look for the Botox® Allergan hollogram on the bottle. It should also be a red flag that it may not be Botox® if it is 50% less than most place or is a groupon. #3 Bring a Picture of your "younger self" so you can express exactly the way you want to look and what you loved at that time and give to the consultant or treatment provider prior to your Botox® injection. This way the provider knows exactly what you want and there will be no miscommunication. You want to be direct and clear about what you want so that you can have reasonable expectations and know that Botox® is really what you need to correct your concerns. #4 Look at Reviews of your Botox® provider and check that they are listed on the Allergan website. This will of course give you an idea of the best and allow you to feel comfortable before you go. You will also know that they order directly from Allergan and feel more comfortable with that as well. Fall Skincare Tips for Glowing Skin

While you change your wardrobe and foot wear with the seasons it is important to remember to change your skin-care routine and products with the seasons as well.  Your skin adapts with the season changes and your skin-care products should follow suit.  I am a lead consultant at an Orlando Medical Spa-Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging so part of my job is to recommend the best products and when you should you use them.
Here are my top Fall Skincare Tips for Glowing Skin
#1 Exfoliate!
Over the summer you accumulated a lot of superficial sun damage and pigmentation therefore it is important to exfoliate your skin in order to reduce pigment as well as break down dead skin cell build up, clean out your pores, and tighten your pores.  The #1 way to exfoliate is with a chemical peel.  Chemical peels can come in light, medium, and strong peels and range between light flaking to days of peeling. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it  eventually peel off revealing fresh skin. The new skin is tighter, less porous, brighter and smoother.  If you can't make it to your local medical spa for a chemical peel, then an at home scrub or product with Alpha Hydroxy Acid or Beta Hydroxy Acid will help as well.
#2 Still Wear a SPF in your Moisturizer everyday!
Even though you may not be at the beach in the Fall or it might even start snowing you are still exposed to sun.  When you walk to your car, drive your car, rake the leaves you are still accumulating sun exposure and damage.  It is important to stick to a moisturizer with a minimum spf 30 full broad spectrum UVA/UVB.
#3 Switch your moisturizer to a heavier daytime moisturizer or add a night-time moisturizer.
During the summer your skin tends to be more oily and a lighter moisturizer is necessary.  When the seasons change your skin typically becomes dryer which means to keep that sweet summer glow you need more hydration.  This is when you should switch to a thicker daytime moisturizer with SPF or add a nighttime moisturizer such as Skinmedica's Dermal Repair.

Professional Exfoliation Treatment A.K.A. Chemical Peel Benefits

Chemical peels have a deep history in the cosmetic treatment realm.  They were the first cosmetic treatment every created dating back to "Cleopatra" Egyptian times from 3,000 A.D. when enzymes/acids were used from sour milk (lactic acid today), and wine (tartaric acid) to exfoliate the skin leaving a glow once skin sloughed off.  However, even though chemical peels have proven their safety and efficacy throughout the years the term chemical peel can be frightening to many people who envision raw skin or the "Samantha from Sex in the City" peel episode.  So another great term for chemical peel is "Professional exfoliation treatment."
Professional Exfoliation Treatment A.K.A. chemical peel benefits are many but here are some of the top benefits for your skin.  Each exfoliating acid has a different mechanism of action resulting in various benefits which is why many manufacturers blend multiple acids to exfoliate dead skin cells and reveal healthier, new ones.
Alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolics, lactics, malics, and mandelics are water-soluble acids that disolve fibrous bonds that hold skin cells together allowing for easier exfoliation.  Glycolic acids are great for stimulating collagen while lactic acids are great for pigment lightening and extra hydration.
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is very popular in many chemical peels such as VI peels by Kalil.  It is a great acid which dissolves aging dead skin cells to reveal new ones and produces collagen.
Chemical peels are also beneficial for reducing wrinkles by stimulating new collagen.  They also break down excess pigmentation caused by sun damage or "Melasma".  Many chemical peels include a popular ingredient: Retinoids which are a form of vitamin A. They are great at stimulating cell turnover, inhibiting pigmentation and producing new elastin and collagen.
Overall chemical peels and professional exfoliation treatments are ideal for anyone wanting to refresh and brighten their skin without a lot of downtime.

Myths & Facts about BOTOX® Cosmetic

Even though BOTOX® Cosmetic has been FDA approved since 2002 to treat wrinkles and is the #1 most popular and utilized cosmetic treatment in the world there are still many myths and misconceptions out there about BOTOX® Cosmetic.  After performing BOTOX® Cosmetic consultations at our Orlando Medical Spa "Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center" I have heard every misconception, myth, and falsehood out there.  I always take the time with clients to explain the realities of BOTOX® Cosmetic and why it is the #1 cosmetic treatment used by men and women.  In this blog I will debunk the top myths about BOTOX® Cosmetic that I have heard throughout 10 years.
Here are the top Myths & Facts about BOTOX® Cosmetic:

#1 Myth: BOTOX® will freeze my forehead and I won't be able to make any expressions.
Fact: BOTOX® Cosmetic does not have to give you a "frozen" look at all.  It is all about explaining your desires to the injector and that you want a natural look.  You should still be able to express plenty of emotions and facial expressions with BOTOX® Cosmetic injected into any area of your face.
#2 Myth: BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers such as Juvederm are the same thing.
Fact: BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to relax muscles and wrinkles while dermal fillers are used to replace volume in hollow areas of the face such as cheeks, mid-face, and lips.  One does not replace the other and they are not made of the same ingredients.
#3 Myth: BOTOX® Cosmetic is painful.
Fact: BOTOX® Cosmetic is typically injected with insulin needles which are tiny.  The injections are extremely quick and minimal with hardly any discomfort at all.
#4 Myth: BOTOX® Cosmetic is poison.
Fact: Mainly due to the fact that large amounts of the Clostridium botulinum are known to cause botulism, one of the biggest misconceptions about Botox is that it’s a poison. However,BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein derivative of a natural product that happens to block the communication channel between a nerve and a muscle. So it doesn’t actually paralyze the muscle; it simply prevents the nerve from telling the muscle to move.

Non-Surgical Body Sculpting Options

While plastic surgery and surgical options used to be the only method of body sculpting used, lasers and new technologies are giving non-surgical, no downtime time options to men and women.  In the 1980's & 90's lipo-suction and tummy tucks reigned the supreme way to lose fat, inches, and tighten skin, but the 2000's have ushered in non-surgical procedures in a big way.
At our Orlando medical spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center we have seen a surge in non-surgical body sculpting treatments in the last 5 years.
So what non-surgical body sculpting options are available?
One of the first treatments to the market was Syneron's Velashape, they now have Velashape I, II, and III to treat cellulite and tighten skin. available.  Velashape technology utilizes bi-polar radio frequency, it treats the deeper tissue, offering a measurable reduction in fat layers, circumference and the upper layers of the skin, resulting in cellulite reduction, the smoothing of the skin’s tone and texture, inches lost, and noticeable reshaping of the treated area in 5-6 treatments. Usually, an infrared thermometer is used to ensure your body heats up to 104 degrees-the temperature it takes to melt fat. Most people describe the treatments as feeling like a warm deep tissue massage. The Velashape II is 20% more powerful than its predecessor Velashape I giving you shorter treatments, with better, longer lasting results in fewer treatments. This treatment has no discomfort, is non-invasive and requires no down-time.
There are now three non-surgical procedures on the market that offer permanent fat reduction and are a great non-surgical alternative to lipo-suction.  They are Zeltiq® (cool-sculpting), Liposonix®, and TruSculpt™.
TruSculpt™ is the first RF Non-invasive procedure to give permanent surgical type results, previously only available through cosmetic surgery. Using radio frequencies, the practitioner deep-heats tissue over large areas of the body. The raised heat temperature stimulates cells, targeting areas of fat, and creates apoptosis or slow fat cell death. The fat eliminating process begins with the truSculpt treatment, but once activated it continues on its own for In only 2 treatments on average, patients can quickly see permanent results in their appearance, such as smaller mass, tighter skin and less dimpling. TruSculpt™ can be used on any area where fat deposits can accumulate, such as the neck (“turkey neck”), under the arms, around the buttocks, thighs, love handles, back, or abdomen.

Frequently Asked Questions on Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal has become one of the most popular treatments in the past few years.  Medical spas all over the country are now offer laser tattoo removal and many people are seeking it's benefits.  One of the increases for laser tattoo removal is due to the strict requirements that the military has placed on those who want to enlist not being able to have a tattoo in an area that shows in their uniform.  Following this same agenda many local police departments, fire departments, and government agencies have also created policies that don't allow employees to be hired if they have tattoos that show in uniforms.  These reasons combined with basic regret and people changing as they get older have made the number of laser tattoo removal treatments sky rocket.
Even though laser tattoo removal is so popular there are still many things about it that people don't know or understand.  After running a medical spa for 9 years and performing laser tattoo removal at Winter park Laser in Orlando here are frequently asked questions on laser tattoo removal answered.
Frequently asked questions on laser tattoo removal:
#1 Will my tattoo go away completely or just fade?
Answer: As long as it is a professional laser majority of tattoos can be removed completely especially black tattoos.
#2 What colors of tattoos are the easiest to remove?
Answer: Black tattoos are the easiest color to remove because black ink can absorb all wavelengths of light.  Yellow and green inks can be more difficult to remove because they contain less pigment.
#3 Who should perform laser tattoo removal?
Every state has different regulations but in Florida it has to be a licensed physician, physician assistant, or Registered Nurse Practitioner.  It is best to also look for someone who has has a lot of experience performing laser tattoo removal.

Benefits of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC

While there is an array of non-surgical cosmetic treatments available in medical spas today, dermal fillers continue to be one of the most popular options.  Dermal fillers have long been used to replace volume int he face to give a more youthful appearance.  Popular dermal fillers include Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, Belotero and the number 1 used dermal filler JUVÉDERMUltra Plus.  However, there is finally a new dermal filler to add to the mix; JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC which is the first of it's kind and our clients at Winter Park Laser in Orlando are loving.  So with a the choices of dermal fillers it can be difficult to understand which one to choose.  JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC will give a gorgeous instant "liquid face-lift" and rejuvenation to the face of any man or woman.
Let's review the benefits of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC. Just like the original JUVÉDERM® Ultra & Ultra Plus products, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is made of hyaluronic acid (HA) — a naturally occurring substance found in the skin. However, what makes it different from other HA dermal fillers on the market is JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is the first and only FDA-approved for adding volume to the cheeks and mid-facial region. Additional benefits of the treatment include:
  • Its ability to reduce or eliminate moderate to severe lines and wrinkles
  • The results are instant and continue to improve for 2-4 weeks after injection
  • It's nearly painless due to the lidocaine mixed in for numbing combined with topical numbing options
  • It's results have been clinically proven to last 24 months on average
  • There is very little downtime or side effects with injections other than possible mild bruising or swelling
Essentially, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC results that give a "liquid-facelift" appearance to the face and make women and men look younger instantly combined with the fact that it last longer than almost any other dermal filler makes it extremely appealing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal

Even though Laser Hair Removal has been available for over 2 decades there are still many questions about it.  After offering laser hair removal treatments at our medical spa; Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center in Orlando for 10 years we have gathered the most frequently asked questions about laser hair removal.  Here are the questions and our expert answers.
Frequently asked questions about laser hair removal
#1: Is laser hair removal painful?
Expert Answer: This really depends on the laser being used.  It is important to find a newer laser technology that has a built in cooling system. This will make the treatment more comfortable and also prevent risk of burning.  Most laser hair removal treatments are relatively not painful.  The most sensitive area to treat is the bikini.  Most medical spas will also offer a topical numbing option which can make it a totally painless experience.
#2 Is laser hair removal permanent?
Expert Answer: There is permanent hair reduction.  After a series of laser hair removal sessions most clients will be 90-95% permanent.  What that means is that the hair removed is permanent, however every person has the follicle stimulating hormone in their body which can produce new hair.  It should be a very minimal amount but most people need a single touch up treatment once ever 1-5 years.
#3 Can you laser over ingrown hairs?
Expert Answer: Yes. Laser hair removal can not only be lasered over ingrown hairs but it is also very effective for eliminating ingrown hairs.  Typically ingrown hairs are eliminated by the second treatment because enough hair is thinned out enough so that hair follicle will not longer become trapped.  This is especially great for darker skin types who are prone to ingrown hairs.

How IPL Photofacials remove Sun Damage

One of my all time favorite Cosmetic treatments is IPL which stands for Intense pulsed light treatments.  I have been in the cosmetic medical spa industry for 10 years as the Director of an Orlando Medical Spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center.  I have seen a lot of great treatments develop over the years but IPL is still my favorite.  IPL treatments are also known as photo-facials and photo-rejuvenation and target brown pigmentation and redness on the face and body.  I love IPL because of the no downtime of the procedure and the instant gratification benefits that a patient gets.
How do IPL Photofacials remove sun damage?  There are several brands and types of IPL lasers on the market.  We use the Palomar Max G Handpiece and get phenomenal results with it. All lasers are absorbed by a target.  IPL is absorbed by dark pigmentation such as sun spots and redness such as broken capillaries and redness.  IPL is pulsed of light that once absorbed by brown pigmentation they destroy the pigmented lesions and constrict broken capillaries.  It is a non-ablative and non-invasive treatment meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin.   The intense light is delivered to the deeper parts of the skin know as the dermis and leaves the superficial part of the skin know as the epidermis untouched and intact.
Intense Pulsed Light treatments destroy the darkest pigmented sun spots first and work best on men and women with dark sun spots and light skin types. It is also great for broken capillaries and excessive redness caused by Rosacea or excessive sun damage.  IPL is an extremely safe treatment that has no downtime other than slight redness for 1-3 hours after treatment.  The brown sun spots get darker after treatment and gradually flake off. IPL photofacial treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest, and any body area.

How Latisse Makes You look Younger

After running a medical spa in Orlando-Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center for 10 years I have seen my share of cosmetic products hit the market over the years.  However, my favorite product by far has been LATISSE®.  LATISSE® is a Prescription grade cosmetic product created by Allergan.  LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% was created for women and men dealing with hypertrichosis (a lack of lashes).  I want to address how Latisse makes you look younger.
How Latisse Makes you look younger:
When you use Latisse for at least 16 weeks it is clinically proven to make your lashes up to 25% longer, 106% fuller, and 18% darker.  While all of these are benefits it also makes you look younger.  Latisse makes you look younger because lashes are naturally thinner and shorter when you are older, and they are full and long when you are young.  So when you reverse this process, the look of longer, fuller lashes gives a more youthful appearance.
Latisse makes you look younger because when there is focus on long, luxurious lashes it takes focus away from wrinkles around the eye.  It also makes the eyes look brighter.

Laser Hair Removal Benefits

Laser hair removal is a treatment that has not been available for nearly 2 decades but still seems like a "new concept" to a lot of women and men.  After giving consultations on laser hair removal at our Orlando medical spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center I have found that there are many additional benefits to laser hair removal that many people still don't know about.  Here are laser hair removal benefits that I think everyone should be aware of and not just the obvious of shaving less.
Top laser hair removal benefits you didn't think about:
#1 Laser Hair Removal will eliminate ingrown hairs (folliculitis) on any area of the body.
Folliculitis occurs when hair follicles get trapped and become infected.  Laser hair removal thins out the  hair by destroying fully developed hair follicles by 15-25% each treatment.  This means that the ingrown hairs should stop occurring within 1-3 treatments of laser hair removal.  This is extremely beneficial for darker skin types with thick coarse or curly hair that are more prone to ingrown hairs and folliculitis.
#2 Laser hair removal can lessen hyper-pigmentation (excess pigmented spots) scarring caused by ingrown hairs.
Laser hair removal looks for pigment in the hair follicle to destroy the follicles.  However, if there is excess pigmentation (hyper-pigmentation) on the area treated that was caused from ingrowns it will absorb the laser light and be destroyed.  So this is a huge benefit people don't realize.
#3 The time you will save.
Laser hair removal will give you back time to do more important things.  A recent survey said the average time a woman spends shaving her legs over a lifetime is 72 days!  Not to mention the time women spend driving to the waxing center and having a way every month for 50 years.  Laser hair removal is about a 6-9 month commitment out of a lifetime.

The differences between Botox and Juvederm

After performing cosmetic consultations for 9 years at Orlando medical spa Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center I have realized that people tend to think Botox and Juvederm products are the same and do the same thing.  However, Botox and Juvederm are two totally different types of injectables and do different things for the face.  It is important to have an understanding of the different injectables so that you can select what is best for you and research the best medical spas and injectors in your area for Botox and Juvederm.
botox juvederm face
Here are the main differences between Botox and Juvederm.
Botox Cosmetic is a Botulin Toxin injectable. Botox is best used for treating wrinkles that are "expression related" or related to muscle use in the face.  Botox is best for treating the forehead, glabellar (inbetween the eyebrows), and around the eyes "crows feet" area.  Botox is not a volumizer so it will not add volume, replace volume or fill in every line, that would be a dermal filler.  Botox Cosmetic does not provide instant gratification either.  It can take up to 2 weeks for Botox to set and kick in completely.  Botox is a simple treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows through a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time. Botox lasts 3-5 months on average and will last longer each time it is injected.  Botox is not considered a dermal filler.
Juvederm products including Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Voluma XC are injectables that are considered  dermal fillers.  Dermal fillers add volume and replace volume in the mid-face in areas such as the cheeks, smile lines (naso-labial folds), and lips.  As women and men age we naturally break down fat, hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastyn in the mid-face. This lack of volume can not be replaced with Botox Cosmetic, only a dermal filler such as Juvederm can replace this volume.  By replacing volume in the face it creates a "liquid facelift"  Juvederm is a smooth consistency  gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.

Questions to Ask for Laser Tattoo Removal Consultation

tattooNew
Our medical spa was one of the first in Orlando to offer laser tattoo removal 4 years ago.  Tattoo removal has since grown by about 50% in our medical spa and in popularity in general.  There are many reasons men and women choose to remove tattoos but the top reasons are for a career change, joining the military, government job restrictions,  relationship changes, or they simply don't like it anymore.  Whatever the reason a person should decide to get laser tattoo removal it is important to receive a good consultation before getting a treatment as these are strong lasers.  I have performed tattoo removal consultations for 4 years and these are the top questions to ask if they are not addressed by the consultant.
Top Questions to ask for Laser Tattoo Removal Consultation:
#1 Question: What type of laser is used for tattoo removal, is it safe for your skin type and is it a laser specifically for tattoo removal?
Reason to ask: Unfortunately throughout the years I have seen and heard horror stories of people who had tatoo removal with a "laser hair removal" device at various medical offices.  This is not safe! It can cause blistering and leave scars.  It is important to know that the laser is safe for your skin type.  If you have dark skin you should only be treated with a Q-switch Yag or Picosure laser for tattoo removal.
#2 Question: Who performs the treatment, what their credentials and years of experience?
Reasons to ask: Every state has different requirements as to what level of education and license you need to perform laser tattoo removal.  In Florida it has to be an ARNP, PA-C, or physician to perform laser tattoo removal.  You should also try to choose someone who has a minimum of 12 months of experience.
#3 Question: Have you treated these colors of tattoo before and can I see work on your clients?

Reasons to ask: You want to be sure that the technician has worked with all spectrums of colors of tattoos and understands the correct settings to use.  You want to see "before and after tattoo removal pictures" of their clients not just stock photos.

Which Skincare Products are Most Important to Use

Throughout the years the cosmetic and beauty industry has produced thousands of various skin-care products and with them have come various ideals as to what products are necessary and how many products a woman or man should truly be using.  Is it really necessary to use 10 products a day?  Probably not.  After running a medical spa-Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center in Orlando for 10 years we have found what skincare products are most important for our clients to maintain their cosmetic procedure results.
Here are the Top Important Skincare Products Necessary for good skin:
#1 Daily Cleanser: It is important to use a soap free cleanser that is not going to absorb too much oil.  It is important to cleanse your skin twice a day, if you only have time for once a day make it at night as this is when your skin has the most build up, dirt and oil. Winter Park Laser Favorite Cleansers: Glytone Mild Gel Wash, and Skinmedica Facial Cleanser.
#2 Weekly Exfoliator: This is one product everyone should invest in and use once a week.  It is important to exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells, stimulate collagen and prevent pores being clogged with impurities which create breakouts.
Winter Park Laser Favorite Exfoliators: Skinmedica Skin Polisher, and Glytone Boost Mask
#3 Daily Retinol: Any woman or man over the age of 30 should own a good Rx grade Retinol. Retinol is vitamin A derivatives that unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines, and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth the skin—sometimes in as little as four weeks.
Winter Park Laser Favorite Retinols: Skinmedica Retinols .25, .50, & 1.0
#4 Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20 or Stronger: It is important to hydrate your skin daily even if you have oily skin.  If you don't hydrate your skin it can over-produce oil or become dry, cracked and show more wrinkles.  It is also extremely important to wear an SPF minimum 20 everyday even when you aren't in "direct sun" as you still get sun while driving, walking to the car, etc.
Winter Park Laser Favorite Moisturizers: Skinmedica Ultra Sheer for Oily Skin, and Skinmedica TNS Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20 for normal skin.
#5 Daily Eye Cream: The skin around your eyes is 30% thinner and therefore is the first area to form wrinkles and needs additional hydration that regular facial moisturizers can not provide.  It is important to find a physician grade eye cream that is hydrating, and has special ingredients to counteract wrinkles and dark circles.
Winter Park Laser Favorite Eye Cream: Skinmedica TNS Eye Repair
#6 Daily Growth Factor: As you age you lose 20% of collagen every year with your skin only naturally replacing 4% so it is important to have a growth factor serum that will rebuild collagen and elastyn in the skin.
Winter Park Laser Favorite Growth Factor: Skinmedica TNS Essential Serum, and Skinmedica TNS Recovery Complex.

Top Ways to Prep Your Skin for Summer

As the seasons change so does your skin and therefore your skincare routine should change as well.  There are easy ways to make your skin glow for summer.   Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center is a leading medical spa in Orlando and is sharing top ways to prep your skin for summer.
#1 Stock up on the appropriate sunscreen.  What type of sunscreen you use matters! You can not just throw on a  watered down 5 year old sunscreen from the closet on your face and expect it to not clog your pores and be effective.  Always check the expiration date on your sunscreen.  It is important to choose sun protection that is full broad spectrum UVA/UVB and a minimum SPF 30-mineral sunscreen for the face is best so that it will not clog your pores.  Apply SPF 30 minutes before sun exposure.  For everyday facial SPF we love Skinmedica Daily Physical Defense® Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30+.
#2 Exfoliate: Exfoliation is extremely beneficial especially during summer.  It gives increased circulation and eliminates old dead skin cells so that your skin will look healthier and have a glow.  For a professional exfoliation chemical peels are a great solution.  For at home exfoliation we love Skinmedica Skin Polisher and Skinmedica AHA/BHA Exfoliation Cleanser.
#3 Injectable fillers and Botox can give some great instant results.  These treatments are not photo-sensitive so you don't have to monitor sun exposure before and after treatment.  Fillers such as Juvederm Voluma XC can give your face an instant liquid face-lift.  Botox cosmetic can make your forehead and crows feet wrinkles diminish for a smooth look in summer pictures.

How to get rid of a pimple quickly

So every girl or guy has been there-you have a big event coming up such as a wedding and what shows up but a dreaded pimple on your face.  While there are many ways to treat acne breakouts that occur often on a long term basis such as antibiotics, topicals, and lasers it is nice to have an easy way to get rid of a big pimple fast.
The easiest and fast way to get rid of a big cystic pimple is with a Kenalog injection.  This can be performed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant in a medical spa or physician office.  Kenalog is an injectable medication used to treat large painful acne lesions resulting in significant improvement in appearance and discomfort within 24 hours.  It is also used to treat poorly healed scars know as hypertrophic or keloid scars resulting in improved texture and appearance over several treatments.
While Kenalog injections should not be used frequently as an acne treatment it is an excellent way to get rid of a pimple fast before a big and important event.

Top 2 Ways to get a Firmer, Younger Neck and Chest

While many women and men start to realize that they need to do treatments and use products for anti-aging on their face at an early age, it tends to take people longer to recognize the fact that they need to take preventative measures on their neck and chest.  In Florida we see a lot of what we refer to as "floating head" because they only put SPF and protect their face, so their neck and chest is sun damaged, red and brown and their face is white.

Here are the Top 3 Ways to get a firmer, younger neck and chest:

#1 IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photo-facials.  These treatments are excellent to remove sun damage, brown pigmentation and redness to even back out the skin tone and improve texture. IPL delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light that is non-ablative, meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin.

#2 Strengthen Skin with Growth factors.  We like Skinmedica TNS Essential Serum. The serum has two chambers. Chamber 1:  TNS Recovery Complex contains Human Fibroblast (TNS®) → A physiologically balanced, naturally secreted and stabilized growth factor blend that helps improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and overall skin tone and texture.
Chamber 2:  APS Corrective Complex has Peptides help support the foundation of skin:
  • Palmitoyl Tripeptide 5, Hydrolyzed Silk (Sericin), Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyprolin

Why Latisse in Orlando Grows in Popularity

Latisse
Latisse Orlando
Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center (Orlando medical spa) has been offering Latisse in the Orlando area for over 6 years and finds that the request by clients for Latisse has grown with popularity significantly every year.   LATISSE® is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.  Since it became FDA approved in the United States in 2001 LATISSE® has had a huge buzz around it for lashes.
In Orlando there used to be a large focus on eyelash extensions but since the approval of LATISSE® that has decreased as women and men can increase the growth of their own lashes naturally.  LATISSE® is able to create lash growth because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is unknown, LATISSE® is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase, and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.  First used in patients for Glaucoma the effects on lashes were discovered and patented.
LATISSE® solution  is a prescription product available in orlando at Winter park Laser and is applied topically 1 time per day on clean skin to the base of your upper eyelashes. Then, gradually, the results come in. You may start to see more length in as little as 4 weeks and you should achieve full growth in 16 weeks. The results are thicker, darker, and longer lashes.
For more information on the popularity of Latisse in Orlando visit http://www.winterparklaser.com

The Difference Between Non-Invasive Body Sculpting Treatments Available Today

trusculpt-before-after
In the past few years there has become more options to reducing inches, fat, and cellulite than just surgical options such as lipo-suction, or laser lipo treatments.  The first non-invasive option for permanent fat reduction on the body that came to the USA market and received FDA approval was Zeltiq better know as "CoolSculpting", the 2nd treatment with approval was Liposonix and the third and most recent non-invasive fat reduction treatment to receive FDA approval in the US is TruSculpt.  So what are the differences in these 3 treatments and which is the best for you?
There are different modalities for each non-invasive fat reduction treatment.
TruSculpt uses RadioFrequency with uniform heating of deep tissue at sustained therapeutic temperatures with unique hand-piece design allows therapeutic temperatures greater than 47° C to be comfortably achieved.   This creates apoptosis which is a slow cell death to the fat cells which are flushed out by the body's natural lymphatic drainage system.  No anesthetic is needed and the hand-piece is flat so there is no clamping.
Zeltiq Coolsculpting uses a hand-piece that clamps onto the treated area and "freezes" the fat through a process called crylipolysis. The fat cells die when exposed to cold and are flushed out through lymphatic drainage.
Liposonix: use high-intensity focused ultrasound to non-invasively get rid of targeted fat around your waistline (abdomen and love handles).
Areas That Can Be Treated:
TruSculpt: The benefit with TruSculpt is that any area of the body can be treated because the hand-piece is a flat surface there is no clamping.  There is a large hand-piece for most body areas and a smaller hand-piece specifally to target neck fat and tighten skin in the neck area which no other device currently offers.
Zeltiq Coolsculpting: Mainly the abdomen and love handles are the only areas which can be treated because this hand-piece has a clamping mechanism.
Liposonix: Mainly the abdomen and love handles are the only areas which can be treated because this hand-piece has a clamping mechanism.  You have to have 1-3 inches of fat to clamp.
So which one do you choose?  If you want any other area of your body treated besides abdomen then TruSculpt is the obvious answer.  Also, if you do not want to have to take painkillers then TruSculpt is your best best.  You also run a risk of "butter stick" effect with liposonix and Zeltiq because of the clamping device-only the fat in the clamp is melted creating a "butter stick" look.  All 3 of these devices work and are FDA approved.  Find a good provider of these devices and have a consultation to see if you are good candidate for any of these body sculpting devices.
All 3 have little down-time and will save you from having to have surgery.

Juvederm Voluma now available at Orlando Medical Spa

juvederm voluma picsBeforejuvederm after picAfter
Winter Park Laser (Orlando medical spa) has been injecting dermal fillers under medical supervision for 10 years and while Juvederm Ultra & Ultra Plus have always been favorites by customers, the new Juvederm Voluma injectable brings new promises to filling in sagging skin and hollow cheeks.  JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC injectable gel made by Allergan is the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area and last twice as long as most dermal fillers on the market.  This product will give similar Sculptra results at a lower cost point and can be done in one sitting instead of several.
Who is a good candidate for JUVÉDERM VOLUMA?  Any man or woman who has volume loss in the cheek area caused from age, gravity, or extreme weight loss.
What exactly is JUVÉDERM VOLUMA? It is a hyaluronic acid filler that gives you a subtle lift, helping to restore contour and a more youthful profile, for up to 2 years, in patients over the age of 21. It's different than JUVÉDERM® XC and works on a different area of the face. JUVÉDERM® XC smoothes out moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, like parentheses. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC, however, adds volume to the cheek area. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume. Voluma will replace this lost of volume.
This process is pretty painless as the professional injectors at Winter Park Laser numb the area topically and there is lidocaine mixed in to the Juvederm Voluma as well.

Why Non-Surgical Treatments are Taking Over Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Botox orlando
When we opened our medical spa 10 years ago-Winter Park Laser & Anti-Aging Center in Orlando non-surgical cosmetic procedures were really just becoming available to the general public and plastic surgery procedures were still #1 for cosmetic treatments.  However, as cosmetic laser treatments and cosmetic injectables have advanced in technology, price, efficiency and ease they are really coming to the fore-front as the industry leaders in cosmetic procedures and actual surgery is taking a back seat
According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery out of the $11 Billion dollars spent on cosmetic procedures in 2012 nearly 50% of that was on non-surgical procedures; $2 billion on injectables like Botox, Juvederm and dermal fillers alone, and another $1.8 billion on skin rejuvenation procedures such as laser skin resurfacing, IPL treatments and more plus $483 billion in other non-surgical procedures like laser hair removal and laser tattoo removal.
So Why are non-surgical cosmetic treatments starting to take over surgical cosmetic procedures? First of all, price.  When the economy took a hit they first thing to go was luxuries-$10,000 in plastic surgery procedures like implants and tummy tucks took a hit while affordable procedures like $200-$300 in Botox, $300 IPLs, and $500-$600 dermal fillers actually increased in profits because they are a way to improve the way you look without breaking the bank.
Secondly, no down-time has become increasingly important to people.  More women work than ever and they can't afford to be out of work for 3 weeks or they are Mother's who can't have that downtime either.  Laser procedures and injectables typically have no downtime or little downtime of maybe 2-3 days where as surgery can be weeks.
The 3rd reason is access.  It is much easier to find a medical spa or doctor near you that does Botox, chemical peels and laser treatments than a good affordable plastic surgeon.  Also everyone now has a friend that has had these minimal procedures done.
The bottom line is that non-surgical cosmetic treatments can pack a big punch with little impact to your wallet.

The Most Common Aesthetic Procedures in Today’s Medical Spas

While Botox is a common everyday term, there are many other procedures that have become equally common especially with the increase in opening of Medical Spas. Here are the most common aesthetic procedures now found in Dermatology offices, Plastic Surgeons, and Medical Spa’s. One of the most common and most consistent aesthetic procedures today is the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photo-facial. This is a great and easy treatment that can not only be performed on the face, but the chest, arms, back and legs as well. The IPL is used to remove pigmentation issues caused by sun damage, as well as broken capillaries, redness, and Rosacea. Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm Voluma are extremely common as well. Cosmetic dermal fillers have grown in popularity because they work and they are the only treatment that can replace volume. Juvederm and fillers are mainly hualuronic acid based and when injected they can fill in hollow cheeks, plump up thin lips, and give a face-lift effect as well. Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing is becoming more popular especially for acne scars and laser stretchmark removal. Fractional lasers are non-ablative so there is little downtime and it typically only takes 4-5 treatments to remove decade old acne scars by stimulating collagen and elastyn. Why Laser Tattoo Removal Can be a Valentine’s Day Gift

Why Laser Tattoo Removal Can be a Valentine’s Day Gift So, you have been wondering all year what can you get your girlfriend or boyfriend that they don’t already have for Valentine’s Day? Well, if you have the name of your ex-lover tattooed somewhere permanently on your body, look no further! Laser tattoo removal can be an awesome Valentine’s Day gift. Let’s face it, no one wants to think of the person they love’s ex let alone stare at that ex’s name in the budoir. At our medical spa-Winter Park Laser in Orlando one of the most requested tattoos to have removed is an ex boyfriend, girlfriend, husband etc. This is why we think having laser tattoo removal to remove an ex’s name can be a terrific gift for Valentines Day. Here are the details on how laser tattoo removal works. While your tattoo won’t be removed in time for Valentine’s Day if you start now it will definitely start to fade. It is important to have a Q-Switch Yag laser used for tattoo removal. Tattoo ink is removed by using specific wavelengths of light which pass into the skin, and is absorbed by the ink. A given wavelength targets only a single color (or a group of nearby colors). For example, the red wavelength removes the green ink and the green wavelength removes the red ink. The rapid absorption of the light energy (shock wave) causes the tattoo ink to break into tiny particles which can then be removed by the body’s natural filtering systems often referred to as the body’s lymphatic drainage system. Why an Eye Cream is essential to Anti-Aging

While many men and women want an "easy map" to looking younger and think a regular moisturizer is fine for the entire face, the eyes require special care. The area around your eyes is 30% thinner than the rest of your skin, and between that and the movement around the eye it is the first area to show age and to dehydrate on the face. Why You Need an Eye Cream: As the skin is thinner around your eyes and because of the extreme amount of movement from squinting etc, the skin is more sensitive and prone to a many issues, such as puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, there are minimal oil glands around your eyes to help keep the skin naturally hydrated, so finding the right eye cream can help to prevent many issues. It's best to find one that fights several issues at once. Look for pharmaceutical grade eye creams as they will have the strongest ingredients to penetrate. You want to tap the eye cream with your ring finger (it's the weakest). Try to find an eye cream without fragrance. Ingredients to look for: For Puffiness: Under-eye puffiness comes from fluid buildup that swells in the tissues around your eyes. This can come from allergies and sinuses, but it can also be a result of sleep deprivation, hereditary issues diet, alcohol, and aging. Look for ingredients like caffeine which can help reduce swelling. For Dark Circles: Dark circles form around the eyes as a result of factors, such as heredity, stress, smoking, sun exposure, pigmentation, and shadows from the hollowing out of your eyes. Things like vitamin C and K, kojic acid, and licorice can help combat skin discoloration. Dermal fillers such as Belotero are the best solution for hollow eyes causing dark shadows. You should also look for light-reflecting ingredients to give you an instant brightening effect. For Fine Lines: Look for collagen boosting ingredients such as Retinol and tissue nutrient supplements. Our favorite Eye creams: TNS Eye Repair by Skinmedica, and our Winter Park laser Brightening C Eye Cream. Pharmaceutical-Grade Skincare Vs. Over the Counter

skinmedica products On average women spend over $426 billion per year in the U.S. on beauty products, therefore don't you want to be getting your money's worth out of those products? Women and men are inundated with skincare products at the drugstore, mall, online, and doctor's office or spa. So it can be confusing to understand what to buy and where to spend your money. So as a medical spa manager (Winter Park Laser) I often explain to clients why they need to be using pharmaceutical grade skincare and why that $150 cream they bought at the mall isn't working, so I want to do the same for everyone. Why over the counter products (even expensive ones) don't work as well as pharmaceutical grade skincare products. #1 Level of Penetration: OTC (over the counter) products can not penetrate & end up hydrating your sheets as they cannot penetrate the outer most layer of the skin. Pharmacuetical grade skincare including cosmecutical lines contain active ingredients that can break down that rough texture beforebeing completely absorbed. #2 Amount of Active Ingredients: Cosmecutical products have a much higher percentage of active ingredients compared to OTC because they are FDA approved to have more & are not watered down with preservatives. Active ingredients are those that actually DO something to change your skin such as lighten brown spots or tighten skin. #3 Price does not allocate effectiveness: There a lot of people that thing if it's expensive it works & this isn't always true. There are many "mall lines" that carry creams that are $200 or more and are much less effective than $65 pharmaceutical grade products. The conclusion is that some Over The Counter product might work but you will see minimal results in comparison to stronger Pharmaceutical grade products. Bottom Line: * If you can purchase a product anywhere other than from a Physician or Esthetic Practice, then it’s not a Pharmaceutical grade product. *Cosmeceuticals have the ability to actually change the appearance of your skin by lightening pigment, tightening skin and reducing wrinkles. *Cosmeceuticals have a higher concentration of Active ingredients which makes them stronger. *Cosmeceuticals are often more affordable (since they don’t have large marketing budgets). Winter Park Laser's Favorite Cosmeceutical Brands: Skinmedica & Glytone, but there are many great ones available! Winter Anti-Aging Skincare Tips

Every season can bring changes to your skin. Therefore it is important to switch up your skin-care routine for every season but especially for Winter which can bring dryness, roughness, and other conditions to the skin. To keep slow down signs of aging follow these tips for Winter Anti-Aging Skincare Tips. Winter Anti-Aging Skincare Tips: #1 Always wear a sunscreen preferably in your moisturizer. People have a tendency to stop wearing an spf in the Winter but the truth is that your skin gets sun all year long. Many people don't realize that you get sun even while you are driving, hence why the left side of your face typically has more sun damage than the right side. It is important to wear a moisturizer with a minimum SPF 30 that is full broad spectrum UVA/UVB. The best anti-aging routine is to always wear a sunscreen as sun damage accounts for 90% of signs of aging. I like the SkinMedica Daily Defense SPF 30. #2: Add a night-time moisturizer In the winter season the weather can cause dryness to the skin. Even if you have only used a daytime moisturizer, the Winter is a good time to consider adding a night time moisturizer this will give your skin the extra hydration it needs. If the skin is dry and gets a dehydrated look it tends to appear older than hydrated skin. I prefer night-time moisturizers that contain shea butter. #3: Give your hands better hydration The hands can be one of the first of areas to show age and they get the most wear-they are constantly being washed, dried with soap etc. The skin on your hands is thinner than on most parts of the body and has fewer oil glands. That means it's harder to keep your hands moist, especially in cold, dry weather. This can lead to itchiness, cracking, and eventually wrinkles. It is important to use moisturizers and sunscreen on your hands as well as your face. For more information on Winter Anti-Aging Skincare Tips go to www.winterparklaser.com

TruSculpt Gives Your Lipo Results without Surgery

While, we have run our Medical Spa Winter Park Laser in Orlando for a decade now we are always amazing with how much technology improves for cosmetic treatments every year. We have offered body sculpting for 10 years but most of the machines we have used were good but didn't offer a permanent effect. So we set out this year to look for something new. We found the TruSculpt machine by Cutera and myself & the owner tried 2 treatments each on our abdomens-our results were amazing! TruSculpt literally makes it look like you had lipo-but with no surgery or down-time! This treatment typically takes 2 treatments a few weeks apart and literally destroys fat cells! What to expect from a TruSculpt™ Session A hand-held electrode is passed over a portion of skin, and a gentle pulsation of radio frequencies are emitted. Each pulse lasts about 4 minutes, and the entire process can take less than an hour. These RFs penetrate and gently heat the skin’s deepest layers while leaving the epidermis cool. This is an extremely tolerable treatment, as the outer temperature can be adjusted manually for comfort and there are also no harmful side effects or downtime from the procedure. The raised temperature stimulates cells, targeting areas of fat, and creates apoptosis or slow fat cell death. The fat eliminating process begins with the truSculpt treatment, but once activated it continues on its own for months. After about 8 weeks, a follow-up visit and application is usually recommended to complete the procedure. The benefits of TruSculpt Studies have shown that heating the subcutaneous tissues at 45° C stimulates fat cells, resulting in a 60% loss in viability. TruSculpt is safe for all skin types and can be used for men and women. A good candidate for the procedure is someone with a BMI of 30 or less, but a consultation at a reputable medical spa will determine if it’s right for you. For more information on TruSculpt go to http://www.winterparklaser.com
